The story of Jesus walking on water is a miraculous event narrated in three of the four Gospels in the New Testament of the Bible: Matthew 14:22-33, Mark 6:45-52, and John 6:16-21.
Here is a summary of the event, integrating details from these accounts:
After feeding the 5,000, Jesus instructed His disciples to get into a boat and go ahead of Him to the other side of the Sea of Galilee, while He dismissed the crowd. After everyone had left, Jesus went up on a mountainside by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

During the fourth watch of the night (between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM), Jesus went out to His disciples, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, thinking He was a ghost, and cried out in fear. Immediately, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid" (Matthew 14:27).

Peter, one of the disciples, responded to Jesus by saying, "Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water" (Matthew 14:28, KJV). Jesus said, "Come." Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. However, when he saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink. He cried out, "Lord, save me!" Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand, caught him, and said, "O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" (Matthew 14:31).
After Jesus and Peter climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Those who were in the boat worshiped Jesus, saying, "Of a truth thou art the Son of God" (Matthew 14:33). This event revealed Jesus' mastery over the natural elements, showcasing His divine nature and power, and it also highlighted the theme of faith and trust in Jesus.

Mark and John's accounts are shorter and focus more on Jesus walking on the water and the disciples' amazement. Mark's account notes that the disciples were amazed because they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. John's account ends with the disciples willing to take Jesus into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
