The Sermon on the Mount, recorded in Matthew chapters 5 through 7, is one of Jesus’ most profound and far-reaching teachings. Delivered on a mountainside to His disciples and the crowds, this message outlines the heart of the Kingdom of God and what it means to live as a citizen of heaven.
Beginning with the Beatitudes, Jesus turns worldly values upside down: “Blessed are the poor in spirit... blessed are those who mourn... blessed are the meek.” In each statement, He blesses those whom the world often overlooks, emphasizing inward character over outward status.
Jesus goes on to teach about the law, anger, lust, love for enemies, prayer, fasting, and trust in God — not merely addressing behavior, but calling for transformed hearts. He instructs His followers to be salt and light, to forgive others, and to seek God’s Kingdom above all else.

With divine authority, Jesus redefines righteousness as something greater than legalism — something born of a relationship with God. He ends the sermon with a powerful call to action: to build one’s life on His words is like building on rock, while ignoring them is like building on sand.
The Sermon on the Mount remains a foundation of Christian discipleship — not a list of rules, but a portrait of the life God blesses. In these chapters, we see the King describing the character of His Kingdom and calling us to live in radical, grace-filled obedience.
