The raising of Lazarus is one of the most profound miracles recorded in the New Testament and is found in John 11:1-44.
Lazarus, a dear friend of Jesus and the brother of Mary and Martha, had fallen seriously ill. His sisters sent word to Jesus, hoping He would come and heal him. Yet, Jesus delayed His journey, and during that time, Lazarus died and was buried in a tomb for four days.
When Jesus arrived in Bethany, both Martha and Mary expressed their sorrow, saying that if He had been there, their brother would not have died. Jesus assured them that Lazarus would rise again. While Martha interpreted this as a reference to the future resurrection, Jesus declared, "I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die."

Deeply moved by the grief of those around Him, Jesus wept. He then went to the tomb and commanded the stone to be rolled away. Despite concerns about the smell from the corpse, Jesus called out in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" To the amazement of the crowd, Lazarus came out of the tomb, still wrapped in burial cloths.
This miracle not only affirmed Jesus' divine power over life and death but also served as a powerful sign that foreshadowed His own resurrection. It was a moment of hope and victory over the grave, revealing that through Christ, death has no final hold over those who believe.

The raising of Lazarus became a pivotal moment in Jesus’ ministry. Many who witnessed the miracle believed in Him, but it also intensified the resolve of the religious leaders to have Him put to death, setting in motion the events leading to the crucifixion.
