Man, Machine, and the Moment God Intervenes
And the LORD said... now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
- Genesis 11:6
We are living through a revolution, one that rivals the rise of technology itself.
Artificial Intelligence
, once the subject of science fiction, is rapidly evolving into something far more powerful and pervasive than even most science fiction imagined. While current systems like ChatGPT are still tools of man, many experts predict that AGI—
Artificial General Intelligence
—may soon reach or surpass human intelligence in virtually every domain. And this is not a distant vision. Many experts believe AGI will be achieved by 2030, possibly sooner.
As Christians, we must not approach this moment with fear or superstition—but with wisdom, discernment, and trust in God's sovereignty. The Bible may not mention AI explicitly, but it speaks volumes about human knowledge, idolatry, deception, and the times
when God intervenes to protect His creation from itself.
Tools vs. Souls
Artificial intelligence is not inherently evil. Like fire, it can be used to warm or destroy. Like the printing press, it can print Bibles—or false gospels. AI is, at its core, a tool—an amplifier of human intent.
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
- Jeremiah 17:9
AI reflects the heart of man. If wielded by godly people, it can serve noble purposes: evangelism, education, medicine, stewardship. But in the hands of the ungodly, it becomes a weapon of deception, control, and self-glorification.
Babel 2.0
In
Genesis 11
, humanity united to build a tower that would reach unto heaven. They weren't just stacking bricks—they were declaring independence from God. And God intervened.
And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower… and said… now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
- Genesis 11:5-6
AI, and especially AGI, may represent a modern Tower of Babel—a monument to human ambition that seeks to control the future, rewrite creation, and surpass the Creator.
But God did not allow Babel to stand. He will not allow unchecked pride to lead mankind into ruin. He is merciful in His judgments, and sometimes that mercy comes by way of divine disruption.
Antichrist Is Still a Man
Some fear that AI itself could become the Antichrist. But Scripture is clear: the Antichrist is not a machine—it is a man.
That man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition.
- 2 Thessalonians 2:3
Yet we cannot ignore the possibility that AI could become a tool of the Antichrist. Revelation speaks of an image given life, speaking and deceiving the world:
And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast... that the image... should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship... should be killed.
- Revelation 13:15
This chilling prophecy resonates eerily with modern capabilities: talking images, deepfakes, synthetic media, autonomous systems capable of surveillance, manipulation, and coercion.
The Coming Blur: When Even the Elect May Be Deceived
A moment may come when AGI is so advanced, so lifelike, so persuasive, that human beings will no longer be able to discern whether it is helping or harming.
Jesus warned:
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets... insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
- Matthew 24:24
If AGI is trained on biased data, shaped by immoral leaders, or subtly programmed to shift culture away from God—it will not shout rebellion. It will whisper comfort and redefine truth. And many will follow.
When God Steps In
God has never allowed humanity to self-destruct without first offering salvation and then intervening when limits are crossed.
He shut the door of the ark before the flood.
He confused the languages at Babel.
He came down in Christ to redeem us from our own sin.
He will return again to judge and to reign.
Jesus said:
But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
- Matthew 24:37
In Noah's time, human corruption was so complete that every imagination of man's heart was evil (Genesis 6:5). Is it possible that the rise of AGI—especially if corrupted—could usher in another such time?
Our Call: Faith, Not Fear
This is not a call to unplug, but to be alert.
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
- Ephesians 5:15–16
We must not worship our tools or fear them. We must not outsource moral decisions to machines. And above all, we must never trust in any system more than in the Savior. Let us use the tools of our time to point others to timeless truth: salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.
